Microdermabrasion is an aesthetic rejuvenation to enhance your natural beauty.

Exfoliation is a part of everyday routine as a way of removing the dead skin cells and renewing complexion. Microdermabrasion is a more intense and more effective form of exfoliation. It’s a simple, straight forward and non-invasive procedure that polishes and revitalises dull skin, reduce the signs of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars and age spots and reduce large pores.

The procedure is not time consuming; it’s perfect for those who are already juggling too much in their everyday life. Microdermabrasion can take as little as a half hour depending on the condition of your skin and the area being treated. Your skin will feel smoother and cleaner after just one treatment.

Microdermabrasion is an exfoliation process where a hand-held device blows crystals onto skin. These crystals gently abrade or "polish" the skin's surface. Then, a vacuum tube removes the crystals and skin cells. Usually, the best microdermabrasion candidates are those with acne-prone skin or blotchy skin, fine scars, fine wrinkles, enlarged pores, milia, sebaceous hyperplasia and those with sun-damaged skin. Microdermabrasion exfoliates and unclogs pores, smooths uneven texture and promotes tightening of the skin. To achieve the best results from microdermabrasion, it may be recommended for you to have a series of treatments.

Who should not have microdermabrasion?

  • Pregnant or nursing mothers due to fluctuating hormonal effects on skin
  • Teenagers under 18 years old due to hormonal changes on skin
  • If you have been taking Roaccutane or Accutane in the last 6-12 months
  • Skin with keratoses
  • Skin that has active florid acne or rosacea
  • If you have diabetes, auto-immune disorders such as lupus
  • Skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, fragile capillaries, dermatitis
  • Skin with active herpes lesions, warts or untreated malignant skin cancers

What are the side effects of microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive safe procedure, however, it does have a minor risk. One of microdermabrasion’s desired effect is that of smoothing out skin tone and correcting minor pigmentation. This is because microdermabrasion tampers with the skin’s colour balance. Like other skin rejuvenation techniques, pigmentation changes such as dark or light patches of the skin can be common with microdermabrasion.

The risk is small because the exfoliation is superficial. Microdermabrasion only removes the top layer of skin (formed only of dead skin cells), leaving the live skin cells underneath intact, thus disturbance to the deeper pigment cells is often minimal. However, pigmentation problem is more common in those with darker skin types. If you have Asian, Indian, African or dark skin of other ethnic background, carefully consider the possibility of patchy pigmentation after microdermabrasion.

Who will perform my procedure?

At Creare Clinic, the procedure is performed by an experienced registered nurse in a clinical and sterile environment to ensure your safety. Microdermabrasion is equally effective to other skin treatments (on superficial imperfections) and, most importantly, it allows you to get back to your daily routine immediately after treatment.

What can I expect after my procedure?

Expected common after- effects of microdermbrasion, (which will improve in 2-3 days) include:

  • Sun sensitivity
  • Redness
  • Flaking
  • Temporary skin colour change

Following all resurfacing treatments, it is important that you avoid direct or indirect exposure to the sun until all the redness or pinkness of your skin has subsided. Even after that, it is advisable for you to protect your skin by regular use of a sunblock and, whenever possible, a wide-brimmed hat.

A good skin care regime and diligent sun protection is essential to decrease the duration of these after-effects as well as to obtain the maximum benefits of this procedure. If you would like us to recommend a suitable skin care range for you, please do not hesitate to ask your nurse therapist.

What are the advantages of Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion remains one of the most popular forms of skin rejuvenation due to its obvious advantages:

  • No “downtime”, no pre-treatment or anaesthetic
  • It is performed in a sterile environment for your safety
  • It is more affordable than cosmetic surgery
  • Your skin will look younger and healthier after just one Microdermabrasion treatment.

If you have any further questions about microdermabrasion, please call our clinic and speak to one of our nurse therapists.
